EDITOR'S LETTER: The Beginning

In my fashion, individual style means dressing with conviction! It means having a healthy sense of self, and it means saying, “I am different, and I am proud of it!” My style fuels my drive in life.

I, Jonathan, am on a fashionable journey though life and this blog is here basically to chronicle what I pick up along the way. I want to learn about fashion; what it was and how fashion has evolved since our existence on this planet. Since the digital age began, there seems to be an explosion of people who claim to be “fashionistas”, the pace of fashion is growing faster and making fashion more accessible, and the depth behind the concept of personal style is being lost behind commerciality. It is more important now, more than ever, for those who understand the root purposes of fashion to enlighten others on true style and how we can exude our true beauty to this world. As this blog continues, I will continue to explore the subject of true beauty and how to always have it.

I am always interested in what people are wearing because there is such psychology behind what a person puts on their back. I know the saying goes, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” but for me, I have found that I can get the gist of what I can expect from somebody through their style. Your style says everything about who you are, and how you operate. It is the precursor towards determining how well people will take to your personality. I like to think that if you want to get ahead in life; if you want to reach your highest potential, its best to look your best; and not only is it important to look your best, but to have a reason for looking the way that you do. The key to looking great (and ultimately feeling great) is not about having “stuff”, it’s about using your “stuff” for a reason; how do you make something that essentially everyone can get themselves, and transform it into something that means “ME”. This is where conviction comes into play. As long as you have a definitive reason for why you do what you do, no one can have any say in who you are. All you have to do is back it up!

Now I did not always grow up in these beliefs. I have spent a lot of time mulling over my style and who I am. One of the key elements of a highly successful person, and a fact everyone would do well to remember is this: Seek understanding, and then seek to be understood. To be able to express yourself through your style one must first delve into their past, understand what are the moments in their life that have influenced their current mindset, and use what has happened to us in the past to build on a fulfilling future. Now if you think this is something you find difficult, I am here to help you gain clarity and find your own unique way of expressing yourself.

I have studied fashion obsessively, and am confident in my abilities. My goal is to become a “Fashion Wizard”, capable of putting together magnificent combinations of cloths; capable of pulling inspiration from any source and make it relevant in today’s sartorial decision making; capable of coming up with a concept on the fly and turn it into something visually captivating!

In this world we don't know what's going to happen. With the amount of environmental disasters happening, diseases, and negative influences, the only thing we can do in life as individuals is make sure we are doing right for ourselves to be as happy as possible! The first step begins with how we present ourselves.

Be blessed,
@InMyFashion
