Style Watch: The Secret of Stylists

If you are familiar with my Style Watch posts from when I began #IMFblog at the beginning of 2012, I would post music videos as my suggestions for style inspiration. For a while now my Style Watch post have been fashion interviews and documentary-like videos, but I still think one can get a lot of style cues from music videos for, in my fashion, music videos help to complete the message the artist is trying exploit. They help to leave a lasting impression of the message being expressed. To me a song can be made or broken from a music video (aside: unless the song is one of true talent and genuine expression, then of course, a song can stand alone). If you are not particularly captivated just by hearing the song, seeing a video for the song helps one to understand the perspective of the artist and bring a new level of appreciation for their artistic expression. The same can be said of a good song, that has a bad video, which in turn leaves a unsettling feeling of inconsistency between the two that unconsciously puts us off to accepting and appreciating the message of the art. The songs below accomplished the former for myself. I think the visual and audible cohesion envelop the viewer into their world of thinking. From being in an artists mind for four minutes through visual interpretation, there are many style cues one can pick up on and translate for oneself. For me the energy in these videos are so sensual and seductive, but in two different ways, both of which makes one feel sexy from watching it. What do you think?

Style Watch: Jessie J

I heart the women that is Jessie J! She is such a visual delight every time she shows herself. Jessie J came from the UK to the USA in 2011 with a very hard, rebellious UK bad girl 'tude, clad in bright bodysuits, gemstone lipstick, outrageous and fanatical frocks, with her signature black bang and shoulder length haircut. I suppose she was really digging her pony tail from the Grammy Awards this year, for in her new video below, "Laserlights", she has parlayed her look into yet another classic, yet modernly innovative style  using her ponytail. As I always say, it's good to mix things up a bit every once in a while, and she certainly has ruffled my feathers in a good way! I have been very pleased to see the progression Jessie J's career because on top of being an undeniably talented vocalist with the personality of a seasoned professional, her look is what has been keeping us in tune to her music. In my fashion, she is always a sight for soar eyes with her optimistic feeling colorful combos and avant guard distinctiveness. I feel that her outfit choices are good examples of how to wear pieces that are more playful, and distinctive design-wise, but acceptable to wear outside of the Hollywood spotlight. If you ask me, I feel her look is already noteworthy in regards to her sartorial influence, for considering she does it so well, I foresee more people on the streets taking the same risks Jessie J rocks on stage quite soon. This single "Laserlights" is to be available on her platinum edition of her debut album "Who You Are" in May.



Style Watch: Neon Hitch

Remember this little fireball below that found her way into Gym Class Heroes music video for their single, "Ass Back Home"? In case you couldn't remember her name, it is Neon Hitch, and she is a new artist, once again, from the UK. The UK has really found their way into the US market with so much new talent coming in and inspiring us Americans with their lovely, but eclectic variations in sound (i.e. Jessie J, Ellie Goulding, Adele). Even though I didn't know who this bombshell was when I first saw the video, I was captivated by the firey glow of this girls hair, which brings out the best of her sparkling eyes. She was a joy to see in the video, but seeing that today is International Women's Day, I chose to highlight this UK star because of a video she has done all her own...Click play! 

Award Show Season Best Looks: The Grammy's 2012

Award season is upon us and we have already marked the Golden Globes, and SAG awards off the list for this year. Here on IMF.blog, the way that I will be highlighting and reporting on celebrity style choices for award shows will be through my new side-feature on my blog called, "Award Show Season Best Looks". When an award show occurs, I will highlight my three favorite looks of the night, and do a mini-analysis of why I think they look phenomenal. Take a look at my choices for this past Sunday as we were entertained by the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. Unfortunately the night before, on that Saturday, February 11, 2012,  it was announced that beloved, Whitney Houston (48) , passed away. Ms. Houston was by far one of the greatest singers this world has ever known with a style worth every thousand dollar, and considering her legacy, she has been an inspiration to people on a magnitude that surpasses even the highest of standards. In my fashion, becoming a source of inspiration is the greatest gift a person can attain in this life.
